The sea eagle and snakes.

The other day we were riding along and we saw a big sign advertising snake shows. We went in to check it out, and got talking with the guy (who was kindah cool but a bit freaky) He showed us all the different snakes he had in concrete enclosures. There were jungle snakes, a couple of 5 metre long king cobras, and some other cobras as well as a big python. The guy was a bit mean to them, he poked them with a stick to make them move and they hissed and lurched at him. He kept telling us to come back tomorrow for the show and pay 500 baht, but we saw all the snakes for free and since we didn’t like the way he was treating them we decided not to go to the show. But it was cool to see the snakes. I got to hold one that was probably poisonous, but the guy said it was an ant eating snake. It was black and it had yellow eyes with lots of bumpy bits along it. The guy said that was from ants biting it, but I didn’t think so. I wrapped it around my neck, it felt scaley and its muscles were really strong.

After that we went down the road on our motorbike and had lunch at sunset bay which is way down the coast.  On the outside of the toilet wall there was a cage that had a sea eagle in it. He looked totally MAJESTIC! His eyes were unblinking, his beak was sharp, his talons were like razors.

The owner of the sea eagle was really nice to it, he put his hand into the cage and stroked the bird, but it hopped away after a little while. I gave him some of my chicken which he liked. And in two minutes all the crumbs that he dropped were covered with red ants. He looked like he wanted to be free, and it gave me the idea of getting my own pet hawk when we get back to NZ. I drew up a rough plan for the aviary that I want to build oneday, I’m working on the prototype now.

It will have lots of undergrowth and greenery growing inside it, and I’ll have to prune the trees alot to keep them inside the enclosure.

It’s hard to see, but thats a pyramid shaped roof which will go on top of the rectangular shaped aviary room. I plan on learning falconry so I can have my own bird one day.

The end. Lukoia Coffey over and out.
