New games and new things (in Bangkok)

A couple days ago we arrived back in Bangkok. This is a city that never sleeps, except for the drunk people that you see lying in alley ways sometimes in the mornings. Its very very trafficy (thats a new word) and its full of smells like bad sewage but also yummy meat sticks that they cook in the street stalls. There’s loads of colourful market stalls everywhere too which make it really busy and touristy. Its hot and humid all the time as well which makes you really sticky and sweat runs down your back. Its just great!

Yesterday at sunset we went to this really nice park with a big temple and an old fort with big black cannons in it. (that’s it in the photo above) There were lots of people relaxing and sitting around enjoying the grass and trees. There’s not that many trees and parks around here either because everything’s walls and streets and buildings in this huge city. Anyway Tom brought out this little woven ball that’s made of rattan which is kind of like bamboo. He brought it for mum so we started playing with it. The Thai people here play this game called Sepak takraw with it where they kick the ball over a net and try to keep it in the air for as long as they can. They have teams with 3 on each side.

ball

takrow-sport-lombok-jumpTom made his own throwy thing, its modelled off an Indiaca which is a similar game they play in Brazil but with a different kind of toy. Mum tried to paste a picture on here so you all could see what they look like, but its not working sorry. Anyway Tom has to fix the one he made, so that’s what we’ll be working on in the next few days.

We also played hacky sack as well and for those of you who don’t know what a hacky sack is, it’s a woven ball with beans in it that you kick around. We played until sunset and then mum started taking photos and me and Tom played tag and OMG he might be short but he’s so fast! After a while Tom and I were getting bitten by mozzies so we went home to our musty hotel and had spaghetti bolognaase for dinner on the way, it was massive! I couldn’t eat it all.

BON VOYAGE, see you latter.

THE END

Half way to Bangkok.

Good morning.

We woke up in Trat and walked down the road to have coffee at the 10 baht coffee place by the day
market.

.

I had tea and Dad and Helen had coffee and then we got our bags on and got a taxi to the bus station, 1 km away.
When we got to the bus station I read my book while waiting for the bus and I was reading my book for 2 Hours.

I was nearly finished with my book and I was on page 334 or 5 When the bus arrived and we took our seats and I played video games for the whole bus ride.

When we were on the bus about half way though, I had to go for a pee, so Helen said to the bus driver “can you pull over? “. When he stopped, I raced out into the banana trees and took a peepee and then came racing back to play more video games.

When we got off the bus at Ban Phe, I was too busy helping Helen with my bag, that I forgot about my green bag under my seat. ( it had my book and my ipod in it) When I got off, Helen remembered that it was still on board, but it was too late as the bus was already driving off.

(Just saying to any of you people using ipod’s and phones to connect with me over the internet, you can’t do it any more because of what I just said. Sorry.)

We got a taxi and it took us directly not in the right direction, so we had to hitchhike to where we were going to stay that night.

When we got there we asked if the owner could call the bus station for my green bag, and she did but she could only leave a message. We are still hoping that we can find it and pick it up when we go to Bangkok.

Last night for dinner we came to a place called “Bobs Bar” and I had chicken nuggets with chips and Dad and Helen had FISH AND CHIPS!!!!!!!! And they were all so good!!!!

Last night, Dad and Helen had such a bad sleep. It was incredibly hot, and they said that it felt like bed bugs were biting them, but as we found out in the morning, they were bed mites. I was lucky that I was sleeping on Dads blow up mattress, so I didn’t have bed mites, I just had a nice sleep. In the morning we woke up and were told that “Bob’s Bar” had better rooms than our place so we moved there. That’s where i’m sitting right now doing my BLOG!!!!!!!!! on our veranda!

I like it here and so do Dad and Helen…… Because it has the best of people and views and every couple of minutes a speed boat comes zooming about with a floatation device with heaps of people on it….. mostly chinese and it looks really funny.

Trat poetry from Trat.( NZ writer.)

Yesterday we came to Trat.

We came by boat so how is that.

We caught a taxi from the pier and found……

The orchid guest house sign in the middle of town.

We put our bags down and soon found out,

the night market was just by the round about.

We went to the night market and Dad and Helen had a nice feast.

But the shrimp they ate I liked the least.

But I on the other hand had pork over rice “and that was very nice”.

I had a banana roti and that thing was very sweet,

I think if I could eat another banana roti,

It would be much more than a treat.

When we came home, I went straight to bed,

Because that way,Β  in the morning I would not feel pegged.

I think I’m having such a good time,

that now I have to end this rhyme.

Cambodian BBQ and saying good bye to friends.

Last night we hung out with the dive crew for our last night on Koh Kood.

They invited us to a Cambodian BBQ and it was totally amazing.

You had a big pot of embers and you had another pot that you would put over the embers, and that pot had a moat thing around the edge that had hot water in it so that you could make the soup yourself.

When you had put the salad and other stuff in the water, you would put some fat meat on top of the metal dome that was just above the embers to make the soup even better.

You would then cook the other meat around the fat blobs like fish, pork, chicken and squid. Their juices would run off into the soup too, which makes for a very tasty soup.

I ate squid and liver last night for the first time, and they tasted so good.

After the BBQ was over, the dive crew invited us to their house to hang out a little bit longer. Dad and Helen were about to say no but I was already on the back of a bike zooming off down the road with Dad and Helen on my tail also.

When we got to their house I collapsed in the hamock because it was so comfortable and I lay there listening to the adults talking about stuff.

We got a ride home with Alex in the side cart, and it was awesome because we were going up and down and all around. It was more than awesome…… It was fantastic!!!

In the morning we woke up and had toast and hot drinks, then caught a taxi to the boat pier, and this time we went on the fast boat so when we were out a ways from land, I said at the top of my lungs…….. BYE KOH KOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I liked Koh Kood so much it felt like home to me.

BON VOYAGE, bye Koh Kood.:-)

Fireflies

When we we walk to Bartist (where Dad had his concert) up the road we see alot of fireflies, so I thought I might do a blog about them. When we were walking up there we came around a bend and in a tree was what looked like X-mas lights, but they were fireflies. So now I’m going to start my blog.

Fireflies are brown, soft and their front wings are more leathery than most insects.

The most commonly known firefly is nocturnal and lay their eggs just below the surface of the ground and slowly the larvae move into caves and become glowworms.

While the larvae move into the cave they feed on other larvae like slugs and snails while the adults feed on plant pollen or necter.

firefly_larvae_by_duggiehoo-d3e66r6

Random fact number 1.
Some fireflies have no mouths.

The light that comes from fireflies is a chemical reaction in its lower abdomen and it is made by the lower intestines of the firefly.

Some fireflies have a skinny part of there body that can spray toxic or distastful chemicals at their predators.

Fireflies interact with their mates by giving them a steady glow, flashing, or the use of chemical reaction signals.

The fireflies of the tropical islands in south east Asia like the ones we saw syncronise their flashs when they are in large groups.

Another firefly will copy the mating call of the other fireflies to attract the males over and then eat them for a midnight snack.

firefly

I think fireflies are pretty cool except for the ones that will eat the ” lighting up ” midnight snack for a special price at New World supermarket….hahaha!!!

Clouded Leopard

I’ve seen heaps of animals in Thailand, but it would make my day if I saw a clouded leopard in the wild.

So I’ve desided to tell you a little bit about them.

The clouded leopard normally has black spots on its head and a dark dusky grey blotched pattern on his coat.

Females are slightly smaller than males and the eyes of the clouded leopard are a greyish green or brownish yellow.

Clouded leopards are very uncommon to see and weigh between 11.5kg and 23kg. They can jump easily up to 1.2 meters (3.9) feet in height and are the best cat in the word, but that’s my opinion.

From the Himilayan foothills down through China into Asia, the clouded leopard roams and even in Thialand there are a few in the wild, but like I said before they are very shy and uncommon to see because there are only 10,000 left in the wild.

The clouded leopard is the most talented climber of all cats because in captivity they have been seen climbing down vertical tree trucks head first.

Clouded Leopard

They can also hang from branches using only their hind legs and their tail.

Like other big cats they can’t seem to purr, but they can use other sounds like meowing, grumbling, growling, mumbling and hissing.

Since these animals are rarely seen , humans can’t get that much infomation about their habits in the wild.

If I were walking along in the wild and a clouded leopard crossed my path, it would make my day. ( if it didn’t eat me first πŸ™‚ . ).

BON VOYAGE… in clouded leopard languge MEOOOOOW HISSSSS MUMBLE GERRRRANA!!!!!!!!

A Relaxed day on an island

Last night we gave our scuba diving friends a piece of green stone each ( new zealand jade ) and a beer to drink for giving us the scuba diving trip for free. We were all very tired from the trip to open sea, so when we got home we went straight to bed.

In the morning I jumped on Dad to wake him up and then all of us stretched and yawned and we were off to get coffee and toast with jam.

After that, Dad and I went snorkling but when we got down there the tide from where it is normally was back another 7 meters. Not only that but the visibility under water and less than 3 meters in every direction.

When we got to the corner where Bob and the scuba dive place was, Dad went the way to get food and I went back home and played on my ipod that is reacting to the heat and over heating itself.

Right now i’m sitting in a chair on the side of the river doing my blog that people all over the world are now Iooking at and experiencing my travels from a deck chair at home in where ever home is.

Anyway, Dad is having a concert tonight up the road at a place called Bartist and if you want to come, just get a flight to ” Trat ” from where ever home is and then get a boat over, and it’s as easy as that. It starts at 8:00.

Bye, BON VOYAGE.

The scuba experience (T.S.E)

Today we went on a boat to an island to go scuba diving and it was so fun. We had to walk across mud flats to get to a little red boat and on the way in the boat through the mangroves, we hit the bottom more then a couple times. Dad had to get out and push the boat sometimes over the mud flats but when we got out to the real boat that had all the gear on it we were sailing like a bird.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When we got out to the island I put on all of my scuba gear. It was very heavy, but then when I jumped off the bulwarks into the water I couldn’t feel it at all. Dad and Helen with their snorkle gear went in one direction and Greg ( my dive instructor ) and I went in the other direction.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

He let all the air out of my BCD( bouyancy control device ) and we both slowly sank to the bottom. We went down 7 meters into sand and he slowly showed me how to control my regulator and other pieces of my equipment.
After this, we stood up and walked a little bit along the bottom but then we started to float so we let some air out of our BCD and swam along the bottom. While we did that, I was playing around with my BCD and floating around Greg. Afterwards, we explored the coral reef and this was one of the best places that we will go on this trip. The amount of living coral was amazing!!!!!!!! We spent an hour under water and it felt like it was only 15 minutes.

When we got back on board, we had lunch and then went to another place around the point to do some more snorkling.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When we got there, I jumped off the roof of the boat and did it another million times with smiles and laughter. This other place was good but it was really deep there so it would have been better if I was scuba diving.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

All three of us had a great time, and can’t wait until August in Belize when we get our open water certificates.

BON VOYAGE…. See you later after I have a good nights sleep. YAAAAAAWN!!!!
